Christmas services

You are very welcome to these special events at St John’s. All normal service times continue unless replaced by something else.  The Calendar also includes all of these events and activities and we also have a one page PDF version for you to share and/or print out.
 
Sunday 28th (November), 5pm: Advent Carols and Readings, followed by festive refreshments.

Monday 29th, 8pm (then 6th, 13th & 20th December): Advent Study Group - more details in the calendar entry.

Thursday 2nd (December), 10.30am: Advent Book Group discussion - first of two opportunities - more details in the calendar entry.
 
Friday 10th, 3pm: T@3; friendly companionship over a cup of tea, homemade cakes and sandwiches. In the church hall. Special Christmas music from the Grove Junior School choir.
 
Sunday 12th, 5pm: Carols on the Common - Sing carols outside just in front of St John’s, bring your own torch! Hot chocolate afterwards.
 
Wednesday 15th, 8pm: Beer and Carols; a festive singalong at the Engineer. Over 18s only 
 
Thursday 16th (December), 8pm: Advent Book Group discussion - second of two opportunities -  more details in the calendar entry.

Saturday 18th, 10am–3pm: Christmas Holiday Club; a day of Christmas fun for primary school aged children in the church hall, in preparation for All Age Nativity. Free, but booking essential.
 
Sunday 19th
- 9.30am: All Age Nativity Service
, led by members of Junior Church. Ideal for Children. Live Streamed.
5pm: Nine Lessons and Carols; our service of Nine Lessons and Carols followed by free mulled wine and mince pies.
 
Christmas Eve
- 3pm: ‘Walking to Bethlehem’ - 
Telling the Christmas story as we walk through Southdown. Meet at the Christmas tree on the green opposite the Co-op and finish at St John’s. Ideal for Children.
 - 11.30pm: Midnight Mass (with incense)
 
Christmas Day
- 8am: Holy Communion
- In the Lady Chapel, no Hymns.  A quieter service to help start the day.
- 9:30am: An All Age Parish Eucharist for Christmas Day; ideal for children. Live Streamed
 
Thursday 6th (January), 8pm - Sung Eucharist (with incense) for Epiphany with a Guest preacher: Charles Burch, Vicar of St Lawrence, Bovingdon & Diocesan Vocations Adviser - and previously Curate here at St Johns.
 
Sunday 9th, 9.30am: All Age Parish Eucharist for the Baptism of Christ; a friendly service for people of any age, celebrating the Baptism of Christ and remembering our own baptisms. Ideal for families. Live Streamed
