Christmas services

You are very welcome to these special events at St John’s. All normal service times continue unless replaced by something else.  The website Calendar will soon include all of these events and activities and we also have a one page summary suitable for printing - please do share.

This year, we are having an Advent Bible Study after the Sunday 9:30am: 30th Nov, 7th, 14th and 21st December 11-11.45am. Grab a coffee and join us in the Committee room to explore the Bible a bit deeper.

Sunday 30th
- 9:30am: Advent Sunday Parish Eucharist
, including start of our travelling crib. Live Streamed
- 5pm: Advent Carol Service, a simple candle lit service for the start of Advent as we prepare for Christmas.

Thursday 4th, 7pm: AT Society Christmas Concert

Saturday 6th, 1:30[m: Wreath Making Event (to 4pm)

Sunday 7th, 5pm: Christingle service, family friendly ~ Learning about the light of the world and supporting the Childrens Society

Saturday 13th, 2pm: Advent Messy Church (to 3:30pm)

Sunday 14th, 5pm: Blue Christmas, a service for those who find Christmas difficult. All invited.

Monday 15th, 8pm: Hardynge Choir Concert

Thursday 18th:
- 7:30pm:
 Lea Singers – FestiveLea, their annual Christmas Concert
- 8pm: Beer and Carols, at the Engineer Pub. Over 18s only.

Friday 19th, 3pm: Tea @ 3, friendly companionship over a cup of tea, homemade cakes and sandwiches. In the church hall. 

Sunday 21st, 5pm: Nine Lessons and Carols, a traditional service of readings, music and singing. All invited.

Christmas Eve
- 11am:
 Carols Around the Crib, suitable for younger members of the family of pre-school age. A short service of carols 
- 3pm: ‘Walking to Bethlehem’, telling the Christmas story as we walk through Southdown. Meet outside the Coop as we walk the journey to Bethlehem and finish at St John’s. Ideal for Children.
- 11.30pm: Midnight Mass, celebrate Christmas by Candlelight. Incense will be used at this service.

Christmas Day
- 8am: Holy Communion
, in the Lady Chapel, no Carols.  A quieter service to help start the day.
- 10am: All Age Parish Eucharist for Christmas Day, ideal for children with interactive talk. Live Streamed

Sunday 4th January, 9:30am, All Age Parish Eucharist for Epiphany, suitable for all the Family, with Blessing of Epiphany Chalk (House blessing) Incense will be used. Live Streamed
