This page provides step by step instructions on how to walk to St John's from local buses and trains.
From Harpenden Railway Station
On arrival at the station, cross over to the station building side exit (platform 4), leave the station and walk down Station Approach (c 75 metres).
Turn left on Station Road and walk down about 60 metres and turn left into Arden Grove (just past Pasta Cibo, an Italian restaurant).
After about 90 metres, Arden Grove makes a 90 degree turn to the right and you should follow this down the (gentle) hill.
At the bottom, turn left on to Southdown Road. Follow this road for some 500 metres, past the Quaker's meeting place, Harpenden House Hotel, Lourdes Hall and a primary school. About 200/ 250 metres after the school, you will encounter a mini roundabout and you should cross the road before getting to it.
Shortly after the mini roundabout, take the footpath on the right that crosses the common behind the Skew Bridge Public House to arrive on Queens Road.
Walk up Queens Road to Walkers Road (about 150 metres) and cross this road.
St John's is now in view, across the common on the left hand side - depending on preference, either bear left across the common or walk down Walkers Road (turning left) and then turn right up St John's Road - St John's is on the left hand side.
(This walk takes 15 - 20 minutes, depending on your speed. There are normally taxis available at the station and the fare is in the region of £3.50 to £4.00).
Buses 321 (Luton town centre - Luton Airport - Harpenden - St Albans - Watford - Rickmansworth), 620 (Redbourn - Harpenden - Wheathampstead - St Albans - Hatfield Business Park [No Sunday service) and 657 (Redbourn - Harpenden - Wheathampstead - St Albans [Limited Sunday service]) all stop in Walkers Road, in sight of St John's. Note: From St Albans, use the 321.
When coming from Harpenden Town Centre, stay on the bus whilst it goes under the railway bridge, through Southdown, turns right at a mini roundabout, and back under the railway and then alight at the next stop. When coming from St Albans (321) or Redbourn (620/657) alight at the second stop after the first roundabout in Harpenden.
The Harpenden town Bus service (HA1) serves Southdown, from where it is a short walk to St John's (there is no Sunday service).
